Tin plate is produced from black plated steel that has been coated
with tin on both sides by electrodeposition. While tin plate has
long been used by the packaging industry for cans and closures, it is also commonly used in the production of deep-drawn oil
filter shells, metal hose, paint trays and more.
Tin plates are inexpensive but are not meant for food use and can be toxic if the tin becomes exposed to the food surface. You do not have that issue with steel enamelware. If an enameled
steel piece chips, simply clean the surface and apply cooking oil
to the exposed area to reduce any rusting.
