Automotive Base Coat

Here is the difference between 1K and 2K paint:

1. Related properties:

• 1K refers to one-component automotive paint, and 2K refers to two-component automotive paint.
• Cannot be used together. You can use it as a base coat 1K and a top coat 2K, but you can never have both a 1K and a 2K in either a base coat or a top coat.

2. Deployment:

• 1K paint is directly sprayed with thinner, which belongs to the two-pass method. The mixing ratio with thinner is 1: 1, no curing agent is needed.
• Since the 1K paint is matte after spraying and drying, it must be sprayed directly on the surface of the background paint after using varnish, curing agent, and thinner, which can increase the brightness of the 1K paint and enhance the durability of the paint.
• 2K paint should be sprayed with curing agent and thinner before spraying, which is a one-pass method. 2K paint has its own brightness, there is no need to use varnish to increase the gloss.

3. Effect difference:

• 2K paint is better than 1K paint.
• 1K paint only acts as a base color to protect the surface of the paint film.
• The hardness of 2K paint is better than that of 1K paint.

Application method

Pot-life:

After mixing the product must be used within 24 hrs at 20°C.

After extended or long storage paint requires thorough stirring and mixing before use.

Solid and Metallic: 6 months at 20°C. Pearl (2-stage) 24 hours at 20°C.

Theoretical coverage

• By using the recommended application, the theoretical material usage is ± 12-14m2 per liter for one single coat.
• The practical material usage depends on many factors i.e. shape of the object, roughness of the surface, application techniques, pressure and application circumstances.
