Spur gear is the most common type of gear. It is easier to manufacture and the cost is lower compared with the spiral bevel gears.
Spur gears are typically used for lower speed applications, although they can be used at nearly any speed.
Spur gears only produce radial forces (no axial forces), but the method of tooth meshing causes steep stress on the gear teeth and excessive noise production.
