Ionizing radiation:

Ionizing radiation is usually also known as radioactive radiation, because the energy of this kind of radiation is higher, it can cause atomic ionization of the surrounding material, so it is called ionizing radiation. In the field of radiation protection, ionizing radiation refers to radiation that produces ion pairs in biological matter. Ionizing radiation can be divided into α, β, γ(X), N and other radiation according to the nature of the composed particles. Sources of ionizing radiation can be radionuclides (both natural and manufactured), nuclear reaction devices such as reactors, colliders, accelerators, nuclear fusion devices, etc., or X-ray machines used for medical diagnosis and treatment.

The electromagnetic radiation:

Electromagnetic radiation is the radiation produced by electromagnetic waves into the surrounding space due to alternating electric and magnetic fields. Detection method for radioactive elements:


1. Physical method (Mass spectrometry)

Calculated by determining the relative atomic mass of an isotope, based on its abundance in nature. The greatest advantage of this method is its high accuracy. In the mass spectrometer, the elements in the sample under test are generated by cathode rays into positively charged ions, which are deflected by electric and magnetic fields. Regardless of the size of the speed of positive ions, as long as the charge and mass ratio (E/m, referred to as the charge/mass ratio) of the same ions will converge in one place, will leave traces on the photographic plate; Positive ions with different E/M will converge at different locations, thus forming the corresponding lines. The relative masses of these ions or elements can be obtained by comparing the positions of these lines with the spectral lines on the l2C atomic mass spectrum and the corresponding mass scales. The relative abundances of these elements were obtained by measuring the intensity of ion current with a current detector, and then the relative atomic masses of the elements were calculated.


2. Chemical methods
