1. What is a vertical nail packaging machine?

A vertical nail packaging machine is a type of automated packaging equipment specifically designed to automatically measure, bag, and seal nails. It's called "vertical" because its former is upright. After the packaging film is unwound from a roll, it's rolled into a tube in the former, then sealed longitudinally and transversely to form individual bags.

It is widely used in the hardware and building materials industries for packaging round nails, row nails, and steel nails of various specifications.

2. Main Components of the Equipment

A typical vertical nail packaging machine typically includes the following core systems:

I. Storage and Metering System:

Storage Hopper: Used to store the nails to be packaged.

Metering Device: This is the key component and typically uses a combination weigher (multi-head computer scale) or a volumetric weighing cup. For nails requiring high weight accuracy, a combination weigher is the preferred choice. It uses multiple hoppers to calculate and calculate the weight accurately. Volumetric metering roughly controls weight by controlling the volume of the cup, resulting in lower costs.

II. Film Conveying and Forming System:

Film Holder: Used to hold roll packaging film (such as OPP, PE, etc.).

Guide Roller and Tensioning Mechanism: Ensures smooth film conveyance and maintains appropriate tension.

Former: A core component that rolls the flat film into a tube. For products with sharp punctures, such as nails, the former design requires special consideration to prevent severe friction between the nails and the film.

III. Traction and Sealing System:

Longitudinal Sealing Device: Heat-presses the longitudinal seam of the film.

Horizontal Sealing and Cutting Device: After loading, the film is clamped horizontally, simultaneously sealing the top of the previous bag and the bottom of the next bag, and cutting in the middle. This is the "heart" of the packaging machine.

IV. Control System:

PLC (Programmable Logic Controller): Controls the operating logic and timing of the entire machine.

Human-Machine Interface (Touch Screen): Conveniently sets parameters such as packaging speed, sealing temperature, and package quantity.

3. Workflow (Step-by-Step)

Loading: Nails are fed into a hopper by an elevator.

Weighing: A weighing system (such as a combination weigher) accurately weighs a portion of nails according to a preset weight.

Blanking: The weighed nails are fed through a blanking channel into a pre-formed tube of packaging film.

Film Forming: The packaging film is pulled down and rolled into a tube by a former.

Longitudinal Sealing: The longitudinal edges of the film are continuously sealed by a heat sealer to form a tube.

Horizontal Sealing and Cutting:

When the nails fall into the predetermined position, the horizontal sealing jaws clamp the film tube.

First, the top seal of the current bag is completed, while the bottom seal of the next empty bag is completed simultaneously.

Then, the film is cut between the two seals to form a single, complete bag.

Product Output: The packaged nail bags are transported via a conveyor belt for collection or boxing.
