The RCA connector was originally used for audio signals. Like many other connectors, it has been used for purposes other than originally intended, including DC power connectors, speaker cable connectors and RF connectors. Its use as a connector for composite video signals is very offen, but provides poor impedance matching. RCA connectors and cables are also used to transmit digital audio in S/PDIF format, with different colored plugs to distinguish them from other typical connections.
