Product Details
Partially methylated melamine resins are highly methylated or
partially alkylated resins that cure satisfactorily at 120-150°C
without the addition of a strong acid catalyst. In thermoset
coating systems, the acidity of most polymers is sufficient to
catalyze the reaction, and the film properties are similar to those
of the high imide resins. In addition, functional polymers
containing hydroxyl, carboxyl and amide groups can be reacted with,
but these resins are also susceptible to self-condensation and have
an R.E.C. of 180-240 As with all melamine resins, they can be
stabilized in formulations by the addition of amine and alcohol
solvents The greatest limitation of these products is baking. The
biggest limitation of these products is the high formaldehyde
release during baking, which is mainly due to the high free
methoxyl content.
