Double Disc Metallographic Grinding and Polishing Machine Fixed Double Speeds Grinder Polisher
Technical Data Download:
iqualitrol Grinding and Polishing Machine XGrind-320
Brief Introduction:
Double-disc desktop XGrind-320 grinding-polishing machine is
applicable to rough grinding, fine grinding and polishing of
metallographic sample.
The machine has two-step constant speed of 600rpm and 300rpm, thus
widening its application.
XGrind-320 is an indispensable equipment in making the
metallographic sample, and has a cooling device to cool the sample
during grinding and polishing, thus preventing the damage of the
metallographic structure caused by overheat of the sample.
XGrind-320 is easy to use, safe and reliable, an ideal sample
preparation equipment for the labs of plants, research institutes
and universities and colleges.

Surface layers damaged by cutting must be removed by grinding.
Mounted specimens are ground with rotating discs of abrasive paper,
for example wet silicon carbide paper. The coarseness of the paper
is indicated by a number: the number of grains of silicon carbide
per square inch. So, for example, 180 grit paper is coarser than
1200 grit.
The grinding procedure involves several stages, using a finer paper
(higher number) each time. Each grinding stage removes the
scratches from the previous coarser paper.
This can be easily achieved by orienting the specimen perpendicular
to the previous scratches. Between each grade the specimen is
washed thoroughly with soapy water to prevent contamination from
coarser grit present on the specimen surface. Typically, the finest
grade of paper used is the 1200, and once the only scratches left
on the specimen are from this grade.
The series of photos below shows the progression of the specimen
when ground with progressively finer paper.
Polishing discs are covered with soft cloth impregnated with
abrasive diamond particles and an oily lubricant or water
lubricant.
Particles of two different grades are used: a coarser polish -
typically with diamond particles 6 microns in diameter which should
remove the scratches produced from the finest grinding stage, and a
finer polish – typically with diamond particles 1 micron in
diameter, to produce a smooth surface.
Before using a finer polishing wheel the specimen should be washed
thoroughly with warm soapy water followed by alcohol to prevent
contamination of the disc. The drying can be made quicker using a
hot air drier.
Mechanical polishing will always leave a layer of disturbed
material on the surface of the specimen. Electropolishing or
chemical polishing can be used to remove this, leaving an
undisturbed surface.
The metallographic grinding and polishing machine made by
iqualitrol has passed CE certification. It features a sturdy and
durable cast aluminum base, equipped with high-precision spindle
and transmission mechanism, which effectively absorbs vibration
during grinding and greatly increases comfort in use. It can obtain
smoother grinding samples and reduce laboratory noise. The machine
can be equipped with a fast magnetic adapter, compatible with
various diamond grinding systems, facilitating quick switching of
various grinding consumables and greatly expanding the scope of
equipment applications.
The stainless steel ceramic faucet customized by a Taiwanese
sanitary ware manufacturer is used to meet the special needs of
metallographic grinding, including water flow rate and angle, while
also being aesthetically pleasing and practical.
The drainage system adopts an anti-clogging triangular waterway
design to solve the problem of clogging caused by grinding
consumables for long-term users. We use the shortest waterway
distance and angle design to reduce the probability of clogging.
The waterproof film panel has 9 sets of grinding and polishing
parameter memory functions. Different grinding speeds, directions,
and times can be set for different materials and requirements,
which can be changed at any time to meet different grinding and
polishing needs.
When used for automatic polishing, an automatic dripping device can
be purchased to allow polishing consumables (diamond suspensions,
alumina powder, final polishing liquid) to automatically drip onto
the polishing disc according to the set time.
