Introudction of Mechanical tester Valve

Mechanical tester valves are the kind of the downhole tester valve is opening and closing the well by lifting and lowering the drill pipe or tubing to

control the ball valve of the tester valve. The tester valve is closed while the tool is running in hole. When the tool reached the predetermined depth,

J-slot mandrel will move up and down by applying the weight of workstring, and the transposition lug can rotate freely, then it will move along the

travel of index groove. The workstring is lifted or set down one time, the position of J-slot mandrel will change one time, like this, the ball valve can

be opened and closed finally. Above movement can be repeated many times as required.

Structure Features and Working Principle

Mechanical tester valve is composed of three major section: a inversion mechanism, a time-delay mechanism and a ball valve section. As shown
on the index groove sketch map, the location marked with numbers is the travel line of transposition lug when lifting and setting down workstring
every time.The inversion mechanism consists of a J-slot mandrel and a transposition lug. There are many index grooves on the J-slot mandrel. A
pair lugs of transposition lug is inserted into the index groove. When the workstring is setting down, the tool will be compressed, then the J-slot
mandrel will move upward, the transposition lug moves to the position 3, which is called locking position. At this time, the ball valve is closed and
circulating port is closed too.
