Introduction

Quartz through-hole shaped plates are high-precision optical or structural components made from ultra-pure quartz materials. These custom-shaped plates feature one or more holes drilled through the substrate and are used in applications requiring high thermal resistance, chemical durability, and precise light or fluid passage.

Available in JGS1, JGS2, and JGS3 grades, these quartz plates support a wide range of photonic, electronic, and biomedical systems.

Material Grades

  • JGS1 (UV Grade Fused Silica):
Excellent transmission from 185–2500 nm, ideal for UV lasers and lithography. Very low OH⁻ content and minimal birefringence.

  • JGS2 (Optical Grade Fused Silica):
Suitable for visible and near-infrared applications (260–2500 nm), with high optical homogeneity.

  • JGS3 (Infrared Quartz Glass):
Optimized for IR wavelengths (>300 nm), less transparent in the deep UV range, suitable for thermal optics and industrial use.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Material Selection & Cutting
High-purity quartz blanks are cut into custom shapes using CNC, waterjet, or laser cutting based on drawing specifications.

  2. Hole Drilling
Precision holes are machined via ultrasonic, CO₂ laser, or mechanical drilling, depending on tolerance and application.

  3. Polishing & Finishing
Optical surfaces can be single- or double-side polished, with options for matte edges, beveling, or chemical polishing.

  4. Cleaning & Packaging
Ultra-clean environments are used for final inspection and class-100 packaging to ensure compatibility with cleanroom use.

Applications

Drilled fused quartz glass is widely used in industries that demand high thermal stability, chemical resistance, and optical clarity. By incorporating precision holes or patterns, quartz glass becomes a functional component in various high-tech systems.

1. Semiconductor Industry

  • Wafer carriers and showerheads with gas distribution holes

  • Quartz components in etching, deposition, and photolithography systems

2. Microfluidics and Life Sciences

  • Microfluidic chips with fluid channels or inlet/outlet holes

  • Sample ports and injection systems in analytical equipment

3. Optics and Photonics

  • Optical masks and apertures

  • Laser windows and beam alignment structures

4. Scientific Research

  • Custom reaction cells or sample holders

  • Quartz parts in high-temperature or corrosive experiments

5. Chemical and Pharmaceutical Equipment

  • Flow-through reactors and sampling systems

  • Quartz cells for UV or IR spectrometry with fluid access points

Drilled quartz glass combines mechanical strength with precision structure, making it an essential material in modern engineering and lab applications.

FAQ

Q1: Can hole size and position be fully customized?
A1: Yes. We support customized hole diameters (e.g., 0.1–20 mm) and positions according to CAD drawings.

Q2: What is the difference between JGS1 and JGS2 for optical usage?
A2: JGS1 transmits deep UV light and has higher purity, while JGS2 offers cost-effective performance for visible/NIR use.

Q3: Are these plates chemically resistant?
A3: All grades of quartz are highly resistant to most acids and solvents except hydrofluoric acid (HF).

Q4: Can multiple holes or shapes be included in one plate?
A4: Absolutely. Multi-hole and complex outer geometries (ovals, slots, square cuts) are supported.
