AISI 1045 steel is one of the most popular carbon steel. And people
call it as S45C steel in Japan. It is C45 steel in Germany. Its
hardness is not high, so it is easy to do the processing of
cutting. In the mould field, it must take the heat treatment before
the use.
It is used widely in the production of machines due to its great
mechanical property. But it is the mild steel, the properties of
tempering are not good. The hardness can up to 42-46HRC by
tempering. If you need a high surface hardness and keep the great
mechanical property, must take the job of carburizing and quenching
for surface, that is really helpful.
1045 Steel Chemical Composition:
- Carbon: 0.43%-0.50%
- Silicon: 0.17%-0.37%
- Manganese: 0.60%-0.90%
- Sulfur: ≤0.050%
- Phosphorus: ≤0.040%
- Chromium: ≤0.25%

- Tensile Strength: 61MPa
- Yield Strength: 36MPa
- Hardness: ≤229HB(No Heat Treatment); ≤197HB( Annealed Steel)
About Heat Treatment:
- Normalizing: 850℃
- Quenching: 840℃
- Tempering: 600℃
