FA-TCS10L13-20D, 10G Base-LR Long Range Dual Fiber SFP Fiber Optic Transceiver LC SM 20KM DDM

SFP+, also known as enhanced SFP, is an abbreviation for enhanced small packages pluggable. Like its name, SFP+ is an enhanced version of SFP that supports data transfer rates for 16Gbit/s. Compared with the early X2 and Xenpak modules, SFP+ is not only smaller in size, but also more suitable to meet the needs of high-density installation.

The 10G SFP+ optical transceiver can be interchanged with the SFP optical module, and the 10G SFP+ optical fiber transceiver can be used in the use of SFP fiber optic transceiver. In the aspect of 10 Gigabit application, 10G SFP+ optical transceiver has smaller occupied area and lower power consumption compared with XFP optical module. The SFP optical transceiver and the 10G SFP+ optical module are connected with the main board with the same serial electrical interface.

The SFP+ specification was first released in May 9, 2006, and its version 4.1 was released in July 6, 2009. SFP+ supports 8Gbit/s fiber channel, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and optical transmission network standard OTU2, which is the common industrial specification supported by many network device suppliers.

SFP+ and SFP have the same size and appearance, but the difference is that SFP is based on IEEE802.3 and SFF-8472, and SFP+ complies with IEEE802.3ae, SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 protocols. In addition, the transmission rates of the two optical transceivers are different: SFP+ supports 10 Gbps, and SFP is usually support 1.25G, 155M, 2.5G and other rates.

Compared to the early XFP optical transceiver, the 10G SFP+ optical module has more circuitry to be configured on the host board rather than inside module. The main difference between SFP+ and XFP standards is that the SFP+ moves the clock chip and data back to the line card on the host device. This allows SFP+ transceiver to have a smaller size than XFP transceiver and achieve greater port density. XFP is designed according to XFP MSA standard, while SFP+ complies with IEEE802.3ae, SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 protocols.
