CHANGES TO ISO 17021

The latest revision 17021-1:2015 was published in June 2015 and the proposed transition period for Certification Bodies is again two years from date of publication.

The majority of key changes to ISO 17021 do not directly affect NQA’s certified clients as they are applicable to the processes operated by accredited CBs.

Those requirements which certified organisations may encounter are summarized below:

1. Certification Claims

Previously 17021:2011 prevented the recipients of accredited management system certification from making reference to their approvals on:

• products
• product packaging
• any other way that may be interpreted as product certification

The new standard allows certified organisations to add a statement (but no mark) to product packaging (not product) and accompanying literature that it has a certified management system.

The statement cannot imply the product is certified by this means and must include the name of the awarding CB.
