I. introduction to ATEX explosion proof certification.
The new ATEX directive 2014/34/EU was released in 2014 and will be
enforced on April 20, 2016. As the directive is updated, the
commission will enforce the anti-explosion directive under the new
legislative framework (NFL).
ATEX directive covers mine and the mine equipment, mechanical
equipment and electrical equipment, it includes the potential dust
explosion hazard environment extended to the air and flammable gas
and combustible vapor and mist. It rules intended to potentially
explosive environment of the equipment to apply basic health and
safety requirements and technical requirements of equipment within
the scope of its use on the conformity assessment procedures must
be used before the European market.
It's named after Atmosphere Explosible in French.
Intended to potential explosion danger environmental equipment
manufacturers, ATEX directive terms and attached with a CE mark,
don't have to consider other more requirements can be anywhere in
Europe to sell its explosion-proof equipment.
The range of equipment suitable for this instruction is
particularly large, which generally includes fixed offshore
platforms, petrochemical plants, flour mills and other equipment
that may be suitable for potentially explosive environments. An
estimated 3 billion euros of such equipment is purchased annually
in the European market.
In summary, there are three prerequisites for the application:
(1) the equipment must have its own ignition source;
(2) expected to be used in potentially explosive environments (air
mixtures); and
(3) normal atmospheric conditions.
The instruction is also applicable to the safe use of necessary
components and the safe use of safe devices within the applicable
scope. These devices can be outside the potentially explosive
environment.
The ATEX (2014/34/EU) directive divides the equipment into three
categories according to the protection level of the installation
equipment:
(1) 1 Category (Category 1) -- very high level of protection.
(2) Category 2 -- high protection level.
(3) Category 3 -- normal protection level.
If the device is used in areas 0, 1, or 2, the class number is
followed by a letter G (gas, vapor/mist) :
Zone 2, area 1
1G class equipment 2G equipment 3G equipment.
If the device is used in areas 20, 21 or 22, the category number is
followed by a letter D (dust) :
Area 22, zone 21, zone 20
1D class equipment 2D equipment 3D equipment.
