Advantages

ASTM A249 TP304 welded tubes are a popular choice for heat exchangers, condensers, and piping in oil refineries due to their cost-efficiency, corrosion resistance, and ease of fabrication. The following are their key advantages in refining applications:

1.Must be cost-effectiveness: lower cost than seamless tubes,making them ideal for large-scale refinery projects.

2.Corrosion resistance for mild environments, performs well in: cooling water systems; steam condensate lines; hydrocarbon service.

Oxidation Resistance: handles high-temperature steam (up to 870°C continuous, 925°C intermittent).
* Limitation: not suitable for chloride-rich, sour (H₂S), or acidic environments, need to use TP316L or duplex stainless steel instead.

3.High-Temperature Performance: stable at elevated temperatures , maintains strength in refinery heaters and heat exchangers.

Alternatives Materials in Some Situation

*Use TP316L, duplex 2205, or inconel for sour gas (H₂S) service.
*Use super duplex or titanium for chloride-rich environments (seawater cooling).
*Use TP321 (ti-stabilized) or TP347 (nb-stabilized) for some very high temps enviroments (>925°C).
