Pipe Fittings Conc Reducer
Eccentric and concentric reducers are both types of pipe fittings
used to connect pipes of different diameters, but they are used in
different situations based on the specific requirements of the
piping system. Here's a breakdown of their different uses:
Design: A concentric reducer has a symmetrical, cone-shaped design with both ends aligned along the same centerline. It tapers evenly from the larger diameter to the smaller diameter.
Use Cases:
Vertical Pipelines: Commonly used in vertical piping systems where the centerline of the pipes must remain aligned. For example, in pump discharge lines or vertical risers.
Minimizing Turbulence: Suitable for applications where fluid flow needs to be smooth and turbulence minimized, as the symmetrical design helps maintain a consistent flow profile.
Gas or Air Systems: Often used in gas or compressed air systems where maintaining a centered flow is important.
Design: An eccentric reducer has one edge that is flat (parallel to the pipe's centerline) and tapers unevenly from the larger diameter to the smaller diameter. This creates an offset between the centerlines of the two connected pipes.
Use Cases:
Horizontal Pipelines: Primarily used in horizontal piping systems to prevent the accumulation of air or gas (if installed with the flat side on top) or to avoid trapping solids or liquids (if installed with the flat side on the bottom).
Pump Suction Lines: Often used in pump suction lines to prevent air pockets from forming, which could cause cavitation and damage the pump.
Drainage Systems: Ideal for drainage or slurry systems where solids or liquids need to flow without getting trapped.
Steam Lines: Used in steam lines to ensure proper drainage of condensate.
