Abstract of ASTM A423 Gr 1
ASTM A423 Grade 1 pipe is a grade of carbon steel known as
weathering steel. The material is characterised by the formation of
an oxide layer when exposed to harsh weather conditions. The oxide
layer that forms on the surface is known as copper green. Once the
oxide layer has formed, it resists contact with the atmosphere, so
the core of the material remains free from corrosion for an
extended period of time. This is also known as Corten Steel GR.1
ERW Pipe and it is used in open weather. Most outdoor systems
exposed to the weather use this type of pipe.
