What is BS4504?
BS 4504 are classified according to a British system which is now obsolete and is replaced with a much recent EN1092-1 classification system. bs 4504 pn16 Flanges adhere to the pressure class PN16 which is a high pressure containment classification whereas the EN BS 4504 Flange is a low pressure class denomination. BS 4504 Pipe Flanges can come in different types and shapes. BS 4504 pn 10 Flanges can also come in different models and compositions such as the DIN BS 4504 forged flange. The BS 4504 pn 16 Plate Flanges is used in requirements where an end plate is needed in a pipeline application.
Forged Steel flanges are commonly used and specified in the Oil, Gas, Petrochemical, and mining sectors, where pressure, temperature, and ety considerations often specify the ANSI B16.5, ASME B16.47, or BS4504 standards.
A derivative of grade 316 stainless steel, grade 316L is an alloy with a nearly similar chemical composition to the previous metal, except that the carbon content of the alloy has been reduced. The significant reduction in carbon content in ASTM A182 F316L flanges is responsible for the high compatibility with welding and the elimination of intergranular corrosion caused by sensitization of grain boundary precipitates. However, the low carbon content also indicates the lower structural strength of alloy grade 316L. That's why the manufacturer of ASTM A182 GRADE F316L WNRF flanges solves this problem by adding elemental nitrogen to the alloy.
