Compared with other DBMBS vendors, Microsoft has always had this
"Prego model" (I just made up for it on the spot, sorry). For
example, if you buy from someone who owns all the yachts, you can
have whatever features you want. You only pay by function. High
availability? Of course, what type? Ok.. pay $n for this. Expand
the solution? $$$ you will get the function of nickel and coins.
Microsoft kee it simple - just want to buy something, just buy the
Enterprise Edition. It is already there. "How?" "It is there"...
Trading has always been - if you don't need the enterprise-level
features that Microsoft has done very well and are included in the
enterprise license, then you buy the Standard Edition. Do you want
to expand memory or CPU or use the "big organization likes!"
feature? Just buy the Enterprise Edition. As everyone knows, in the
SQL Server world, this means pricing for each core. And it's a bit
more expensive than the standard version (but less than the same
Oracle or DB2 installation). This is a fairly fair deal compared to
most other large enterprise DBMS providers on the market.
but. to be frank. For software vendors, this is a royal pain. For
customers who are at the forefront. How many times have you thought
about or said "I just hope that I can maintain compliance through
encryption or fine-grained auditing, but we can't prove going to
the enterprise!" or "Compression will be very good in the standard
version." We are very Satisfied with 128GB of RAM, the CPU load is
very good, I only hope that I can compress without the enterprise
price tag."
