How Starter Motors Work

motor.

drive (Bendix gear system), which engages the vehicle's flywheel.
As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the
combustion process.
Once the engine is running, the connection between starter motor
and flywheel disengages automatically, as the engine no longer
requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
