Application:

The 2486A972 oil cooler is purpose-built for the later Perkins 1006-6T six-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engines of 5.99 L displacement, assemblies that drive FG Wilson P13.5-6, P22-6 and P33-6 generator sets rated from 10 kVA to 30 kVA, as well as agricultural tractors, mobile lighting towers and industrial compressors that were repowered with the 1006 series during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although its primary application is the 1006-6T, the same shell-and-tube cooler is also employed on the 4.236, T4.236 and AT4.236 4.0 L turbo-charged engines when those units have been retro-fitted with the later filter head and cooler housing, so the service envelope spans agricultural tractors, combine harvesters, generator sets and industrial machinery across multiple power segments.

Technical specifications:

The cooler is a 13-plate, donut-type heat exchanger that locates in the 98.48 mm counterbore of the cylinder block. Plate stack outside diameter is 114 mm, overall height including the sealing flange is 78 mm, and thirteen internally-turbulated stainless-steel plates deliver an oil-side heat-transfer area of 494 cm².

Material & performance features:

The plate pack is vacuum-brazed 304 stainless steel for maximum resistance to chloride corrosion from modern long-life coolants, while the outer shell is zinc-nickel passivated mild steel for additional salt-spray protection. Internal louvered fins increase film coefficient by 18 % over earlier 9-plate designs, keeping oil pressure drop below 0.42 bar at 80 °C.
