Application:
The 2848A116 water temperature sensor is engineered for Perkins
4.236, T4.236 and AT4.236 turbocharged four-cylinder diesels (4.0
L) and is equally at home on the 704-30, 704-30T, 1004-4, 1004-4T,
1006-6 and 1006-6T engines found in agricultural tractors, combine
harvesters, 40–100 kVA generator sets and compact industrial
loaders. In these applications the sensor screws directly into the
thermostat housing or cylinder head coolant passage and provides a
precise resistance signal to the engine control unit. This allows
the ECU to adjust fuel injection timing, air-fuel ratio and
electric fan activation so that optimum combustion efficiency is
maintained whether the engine is warming up from cold or running
under sustained full load.
Technical specifications:
The sensor body is a brass forging with 1/8" NPTF male thread and 19 mm hex, measuring 58 mm overall length and weighing 115 g. It employs a negative-temperature-coefficient (NTC) thermistor whose resistance decreases from 10 kΩ ±3 % at 25 °C to 184 Ω ±10 % at 100 °C, producing a steep and repeatable curve that the ECU can resolve to ±1 °C. Response time from 25 °C to 100 °C in flowing coolant is less than 15 seconds.
Material & performance features:
The sensing element is a glass-encapsulated NTC bead that is thermally bonded to the brass probe tip for rapid heat transfer and excellent long-term stability. The body is nickel-plated for corrosion resistance and over-moulded with high-temperature PPS resin achieving IP67 ingress protection.
