The Schneider Electric 140CPU43412A is a Quantum CPU module located on the Quantum local I/O backplane. The CPU uses a digitally operating electronic system using programmable memory for storing the user’s instructions. These settings are then used for functions like logic, process sequencing, timing, coupling, and arithmetic.
This allows the user to control machines and processes through digital and analog outputs. The Quantum CPU also serves as the bus master for controlling the local, remote, and distributed I/O of the Modicon Quantum system. The 140-CPU-434-12A uses a single slide switch to select the comm parameter settings for the Modbus (RS-323) ports. The Quantum CPU hardware defaults to a bridge mode when the front panel switch is set to RTU mode or ASCII mode. When networking controllers together, a panel device connected to the CPU Modbus port can also communicate with the controlly that it is connected to, as well as log into any nodes that are on the Modbus Plus network.
If the switch position is set to stop, the application in Flash memory is not being transferred to the internal RAM, and a warm restart of the application is then triggered. From Start or Mem Prt, it will stop the controller if it is running and voids any programmer changes. When the switch position is set to Mem Prt, the same behavior occurs. However, from Stop or Start, it prevents program changes and the controller run status remains unchanged. If the switch is in the Start position, the application in Flash memory is automatically transferred to internal RAM when the CPU is powered up. A cold restart is triggered as well. From Stop, it enables programmer changes and starts the Schneider Automation 140CPU43412A. From Mem Prt, it accepts the programmer’s changes and starts the controller if it is stopped.
The Quantum 140CPU43412A CPU is a single-slot
programmablecontroller with built-in executive memory, application
memory andcommunication ports. All memory components are on board
so noadditional chips or cartridges are necessary.Quantum CPUs use
flash memory technology to support the CPU’sexecutive memory and
instruction set.
Flash is a state-of-the-art,nonvolatile memory technology that
enables downloadable fieldupgrades as new features become
available.The application program can be stored in either
battery-backed RAMand/or Flash RAM. The battery is located on the
front of the CPU andcan be serviced while the CPU is running. To
protect the applicationprogram from inadvertent changes during
operation, the140CPU43412A features a memory-protect switch.
An LED goes onwhen this switch is activated.The 140CPU43412A CPU
has two Modbus ports and one ModbusPlus port. Simple rotary
switches on the back of the CPU are used toset the network address
of the Modbus Plus port. Each device on aModbus Plus network must
have a unique address in the range 1 … 64.
